ABOUT CAMBRIDGE
There are 31 colleges that actually
make up Cambridge University and
they are all located in or around the city centre. Anglia Polytechnic
University (APU), The Open
University and Cambridge Regional
College (CRC) are also easily accessible. CRC offers a diverse
range of courses from a HNC in
Beauty Therapy to a HND in Engineering.
A lot of the colleges do have their own language courses, but
in addition, there are also
20 language schools in and around
Cambridge specifically aimed at foreign students.
Cambridge
is a very cosmopolitan
city, with people from all races,
cultures and religions living, working
and studying side by side in the community. All
tastes are catered for, whether you
are food shopping or clothes shopping. There are two main
shopping areas – town
and the Grafton Centre. Each area has its share of designer
clothes stores, high street shops,
sports shops, shoes shops, gift shops,
jewellers, music shops and food shops,
to name just a few. In short – whatever you are
looking for – you will find it...
There are supermarkets scattered throughout Cambridge and many
corner shops and co-ops to choose from. For those with more exotic
tastes, there are delicatessens and specialist food shops in most
areas.
Fast food outlets can be found throughout the city and there are numerous restaurants
serving foods from around the world. Whether you have a tight budget, or you
can afford to spend lavishly – there is a menu to suit and satisfy you.
Whatever your style, whether you consider yourself a fashion victim, a trend-setter
or someone with alternative tastes – there are more than enough clothes
shops to keep you kitted out. And whether you opt for designer gear or cheaper
threads, there is a shop with prices to keep you happy.
Culturally, Cambridge has everything you could ever wish for. History, art and
literature are a huge part of Cambridge life and you can submerge yourself in
it, or simply admire it from afar. The spectacular architecture around Cambridge
will astound you, with some of the colleges dating back as far as the 13th Century.
Some of the buildings are truly beautiful and unlike anything you will see elsewhere.
There are museums dedicated to a vast array of subjects from zoology to art collections
and antiques. If your interests lie more in the direction of science and medicine,
again, you will not be disappointed. There are museums, frequent displays, open
lectures and visiting speakers. Cambridge also boasts one of the leading teaching
hospitals in England – Addenbrooke’s NHS Trust Hospital.
As a student town, Cambridge has so many pubs – you may just lose count!
From old-fashioned, traditional ale houses to modern, trendy cocktail bars. And
if you are a big fan of city night life – there are enough clubs to keep
you busy too. Most of the clubs run theme nights, with anything from R&B
nights or 60’s and 70s disco nights to nights strictly for foreign students.
Cambridge
really does have it all
